RSS is a simple technology for sharing
and distributing information like data, news headlines and other web page
content with other webmasters and users.
RSS is the next big trend online.
RSS is growing in popularity among web users as a way to check
for updated content on the Web sites they visit regularly.
You can keep up to date with blogs, journals, online newsletters,
news sites
and you don’t need to remember to visit the web site.
It’s easy if you grab the site's RSS or Atom webfeeds.
RSS is the solution to spam! You subscribe to the site feeds sort
of like you would subscribe to an ezine, however you don't have to
give out your email address. You don't have to worry about your
spam filters, or your ISP's spam filters blocking your subscriptions.
It's supported by many news sites, web logs (blogs), and other
sites, and it's led to the growth of a new software category
of shareware and freeware RSS readers.
There are thousands of sites which syndicate their content in RSS
or Atom format, and many more are becoming available every day.
Webfeeds aren't complicated. You just need to get WebFeed reading
software for your computer. There are many that are free or
low cost.
The WebFeed reading software will explain what to do.
Just click on the "Site Feed" link or if you see an icon that says
"RSS", "ATOM" or "XML" click on it and click to get the URL for a webfeed.
Depending on which type of reader you have, you then copy and paste the
the URL into your WebFeed Reader or it will be added automatically.
FeedReader is an
excellent standalone webfeed reading software and it's FREE.
When you download and install FeedReader, click on the "New Feed"
button to add your favorite sites. For example, to add the Everyday Business Online
site feed, click on "New Feed". A box will come up, paste the link
http://everydaybusinessonline.blogspot.com/atom.xml
into the line that says "Please enter URL of feed", then click on
"Next".
The link "Online Advertising and Marketing" will appear in the left hand
column under "My Links". If you
click on it, and nothing shows up in the window, go to the toolbar at the
top and click on "Update".
Pluck is a reader that
integrates with Internet Explorer and it's FREE. I haven't tried it
yet as I am using FeedReader. However, it is a plug-in for your
web browser and will be easily accessible from the toolbar.
You can find more free or low cost WebFeed Readers by doing
a search on Google.
Whenever you open your WebFeed reader, it will alert you to all
the feeds that have been updated since you last visited. If you no
longer want to subscribe to a feed, simply delete it from your list.
